Revolutionizing Leadership Training at IHG: An Insider’s Perspective

In the world of eLearning development, staying abreast of innovative training methods is key. The story of InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG) revolutionizing its leadership training using Learning Pool stood out to me. IHG’s challenge of equipping its workforce with the skills for effective conversations resonates with my goal of creating engaging eLearning experiences.

IHG partnered with Learning Pool to roll out a Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) for 3000 first-level leaders worldwide, showcasing how technology can facilitate global learning initiatives. By utilizing the Learning Pool Platform as the core tool for the MOOC, along with interactive elements and curated content, IHG demonstrated the power of blending varied learning resources for an immersive learning journey.

The impact of the MOOC was profound, with over 1500 videos added to the platform and insights contributed by colleagues from 42 countries, emphasizing the success of fostering a global learning community. By employing xAPI to assess learning impact on behavior, IHG could effectively monitor real changes brought about by the training.

Improving Training Strategies Through Engaging Experiences

IHG’s “Next Thinking” hackathon aimed at gathering insights on leadership, culture, flexible work, and well-being highlighted the significance of creating immersive and interactive learning experiences. As an eLearning developer, I constantly seek ways to engage learners and gather feedback for refining training strategies. Employing the Learning Pool Platform for the hackathon and integrating instant content authoring tools enabled IHG to build a vibrant learning atmosphere that encouraged discussions and yielded valuable insights.

By incorporating e-coaches to guide hackathon participants in exploring issues and implementing solutions, IHG adopted a learner-centric approach to training design. Leveraging qualitative and quantitative data from the hackathon in Learning Pool Learning Record Store (LRS), IHG obtained a comprehensive view of organizational challenges and opportunities, guiding future strategies and projects.

The outcomes of the hackathon, with more than 4500 comments gathered and actionable insights derived from key themes, underline the value of immersive learning experiences in capturing immediate feedback and steering organizational change. Tailoring leadership development programs, refining processes, and boosting office engagement activities based on staff input illustrate the impact of infusing interactive and participatory aspects into training methodologies.

Fostering Organizational Change Through Interactive Learning Initiatives

The IHG case study of reshaping leadership training with Learning Pool underscores the potency of immersive and interactive learning experiences in propelling institutional change. IHG’s innovative approaches in engaging learners, fostering collaboration, and assessing training effectiveness serve as inspiration for eLearning developers.

By harnessing technologies like Learning Pool Platform and xAPI, IHG established a global learning community while gauging the efficacy of its training endeavors. The success of the MOOC and hackathon in gathering valuable inputs, stimulating dialogue, and shaping future strategies highlights the importance of crafting dynamic and captivating learning experiences that empower learners to steer organizational transformation.
