UWill, a provider of mental health and wellness services, has recently acquired Virtual Care Group, a student telehealth company based in Los Angeles. This acquisition will help UWill expand its client base, which currently includes over 2 million students.

UWill offers online mental health services that connect university students with licensed counselors for personalized care. It has established partnerships with more than 300 colleges worldwide, with a strong presence in the US, serving institutions like Babson College, the University of Michigan, and Columbus State Community College.

By acquiring Virtual Care Group, UWill aims to broaden its reach and enhance its digital services for more educational institutions. Michael London, the founder and CEO of UWill, emphasized the combined strengths of the two companies in meeting the mental health needs of college communities globally.

Addressing student mental health

Studies conducted by the American College Health Association indicate that around 77% of college students are facing mental health challenges. Despite this high prevalence, many students with mental health conditions do not seek help, and a significant portion feel uncertain about where to get support during a crisis.

Michael London highlighted the common mental health issues faced by college students, such as stress, anxiety, and depression related to academic pressures and life uncertainties. He noted that while these issues are widespread, they can vary in intensity and nature depending on the region and academic calendar.

In addition to its matching service, UWill offers a comprehensive mental health solution that includes access to crisis intervention and psychiatric care, as well as resources for yoga and meditation. The platform also provides students with data and analytics on their mental health progress.

Leveraging online and digital tools, UWill aims to overcome traditional barriers to mental health services by offering accessibility, flexibility, and immediate support. This approach is particularly beneficial for students with busy schedules or those studying remotely.

Danny Zusman, the founder and CEO of Virtual Care Group, expressed enthusiasm about the acquisition and the potential to improve mental health support within higher education. By combining their resources and expertise, UWill and Virtual Care Group are committed to enhancing the well-being of students, faculty, and staff.
